Grilled Green Tomato Chutney is prepared by grilling the green raw tomatoes on open flame and then grinding it togther with coconut, green chillies, roasted peanuts and coriander leaves. This chutney goes well with hot rice or even dosa or idli.
Ingredients:
Green Tomatoes – 3
Coconut – 1/4 cup, grated
Green Chillies – 3, sliced
Peanuts – 1/2 cup
Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsps, chopped
Salt to taste
Oil – 1 tsp
For Seasoning:
Mustard Seeds – 1/4 tsp
Black Gram – 1/4 tsp
Oil – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Method:
- Smear little oil on the tomatoes.
- Grill them on an open flame until the skin shrinks and separates.
- Let them cool and de-skin them.
- Mash them little bit.
- Heat oil in a pan, fry groundnuts, coriander leaves and green chillies for 3-4mins.
- Let it cool.
- Blend mashed tomatoes, coconut, fried peanuts, coriander leaves, green chillies and salt into a smooth chutney.
- Heat oil in another pan, add black gram and mustard seeds.
- When mustard seeds start to splutter add asafoetida.
- Add this seasoning to the chutney.
- Serve with hot with rice or dosa.
