Jeegujje Podi are fritters prepared in Mangalore region by dipping slices of breadfruit in a spicy gram flour batter and then deep frying until crisp.
Ingredients:
Breadfruit – 1
Gram Flour(Besan) – 1 cup
Rice Flour – ½ cup
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tbsp
Ajwain – 1 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method:
- Peel and cut breadfruit into desired shape and keep the in water.
- In a mixing bowl, take gram flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, asafoetida, ajwain and half cup water.
- Mix well adjusting the consistency of the batter.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Dip a breadfruit piece in this batter so that it fully coated with the batter and drop it in the oil.
- Add 4-5 pieces depending on the quantity of oil.
- Repeat this for all the remaining pieces of breadfruit.
- Serve hot with tomato sauce.
P.S: You can replace Breadfruit with onion, potato, raw banana, ripe banana, capsicum, sweet potato, ridge gourd, etc.,
