Breadfruit Chips is a classic snack from Mangalore prepared by deep frying thin slices of breadfruit until they are crisp and then sprinkling some salt and red chili powder.
Ingredients:
Breadfruit – 1
Salt – 1 tbsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tbsp
Oil for deep frying
Method:
- Cut breadfruit vertically into 6 slices.
- Peel off the skin.
- Heat oil in a frying pan.
- Using a chips grater, grate the breadfruit slice and immediately put them into oil.
- Deep fry until they become crisp.
- Remove from oil and put them in a bowl.
- Immediately sprinkle salt and chilli powder mixture.
- Toss well so that the mixture coats well on the chips.
- Repeat the same for all the slices.
- Once cooled, store in an air tight container.
Variation:
You can replace breadfruit with potato, raw banana, sweet potato etc.,
